Paul N. Schacknow, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Paul Schacknow did not take the typical career path to become a physician. He finished his undergraduate degree in psychology with honors at Brooklyn College and then completed his Ph.D. in auditory and visual psychophysics at the City University of New York. He was appointed to the faculty as an Assistant Professor at the State University of New York, College at Purchase. Seven years into his teaching career, he decided to undertake medical studies at a special program for scientists at the University of Miami, where he received his M.D. degree in 1983. His internship was completed at Framingham-Union Hospital in Massachusetts, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School and then a fellowship in glaucoma management at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He is the senior editor of "THE GLAUCOMA BOOK" published in 2010 by Springer Healthcare.

Dr. Schacknow is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Ophthalmology, at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale. He serves as Chief of of Glaucoma at Visual Health & Surgical Center. He is available to see patients in our main office in Palm Springs, FL.
